Day 1

Arrival at Damascus Airport, meet & assist; transfer to hotel; dinner & overnight

Day 2

Full day discovery tour of Damascus, including: National Museum, Tekkiyeh Sulimanieh Mosque (built in the 16th cent), Umayyad Mosque (built as the Cathedral of John the Baptist on the foundations of the Roman Temple of Jupiter, which was preceded by the Temple of Haddad), and St. Ananias Chapel (once the home of the man who initiated Saul/Paul into Christianity). In the evening, a panoramic view of Damascus from Mount Qasyun. Dinner & overnight in Damascus.

Day 3

Departure to Palmyra (the city of the legendary 3rd century Queen Zenobia); discovery tour of Palmyra, including: Temple of Bel, the cardo maximo, and the tombs. Continue to Deir Ezzor, on the Euphrates River. Dinner & overnight in Deir Ezzor

Day 4

In Deir Ezzor, visit the museum (the home of the finest collection of material from Mari and Mesopotamia). Continue across the desert to the citadel of Resafeh (3rd century Sergiopolis) for a visit of the site. Resume trip across the desert to Jaabar Castle, on an island in Lake Assad. Complete the journey with a final transfer to Aleppo (which vies with Damascus for the title of the oldest continuously occupied city in the world); Dinner & Overnight in Aleppo.

Day 5

City tour of Aleppo, including the Great Mosque, the citadel of Aleppo, the Grand Bazaar, and Armenian quarter, the ancient Aragon Hospital. Transfer to Hama; Dinner & Overnight in Hama.

Day 6

In Hama, a visit to the Norias (ancient waterwheels which lift the water of the Orontes River to the city & the farms beyond), continue to the "Dead Cities" of Al-Bara, Serjilla & Apamea (known to the eastern world as Niya in 1447 B.C. and as Pella in 300 B.C.). Transfer to Homs, Dinner & Overnight in Homs.

Day 7

Departure to Krak des Chevaliers, discovery tour of the fortress of the 12th century Crusaders; Continue to Maaloula to visit the convents of St. Sergius and Ste. Tekla. Transfer to Damascus, Dinner & Overnight in Damascus.

Day 8

Transfer to the airport and farewell.

Services Included:

Our quotation includes transportation in air-conditioned vehicles, experienced guides (in the language of your choice), entrance fees to museums and historical sites and accommodation on a half-board basis (breakfast & dinner).
Accommodation for children under 12 is free when they are sharing with their parents. Entry to museums and archeological sites for children is free of charge. Children under 6 also have their meals without charge.

Our quotation does not include tips for drivers and guides, or any expenses of a personal nature (such as laundry fees, telephone calls, drinks, etc.)

Students carrying valid international student cards will qualify for vastly reduced entry fees at all museums, archeological sites and historical sites.
